Salary Cap Info + Rules:
- The Salary Cap will always mirror the NBA Salary Cap, it will be updated annually.
- No Team is allowed to make move that puts them over the cap at any time.
- Teams that start above the cap in the offseason must be under the cap at the start of the regular season.
- Teams that are over the salary cap may not trade for more cap. You can only cut cap, even if you are over the cap limit after the transaction.
Free Agency Rules:
- The minimum contract that can be offered is $500,000
- The minimum increase of a bid must be at least 0.1 CV
- If your leading bid stands for at least 24 hours, you are awarded the player
- You can bid on as many players as you want as long as you have sufficient cap and roster space
- The max number of years you can bid on a player is 4 years or 5 if you own bird rights (you can find who you have bird rights on in the spreadsheet)
- In the event of two or more teams offering the max to the same player (without bird rights) the player will go to the team with the most cap space available.
Unrestricted Free Agency:
Free agents will be won using a bidding system. Contract Value Multiplier (CVM) is a system used to determine the amount of money offered per year to a player in free agency.
Contract Multiplier Length:
1 year - x1.0
2 years - x1.2
3 years - x1.4
4 years - x1.6
Max Contracts:
There will be a max contract set amount you can bid on a certain player depending how many years they've played in the league to keep those contracts being offered relatively reasonable.
- Max contract for players 6 years or less is 25% of the cap
- Max contract for players years 7-9 is 30% of the cap
- Max contract for players 10+ years is 35% of the cap
** EARLY MAX EXTENSIONS **
Teams may sign any current (contract expired) UFA or RFA players to a 5 year max contract prior to those players being bid on in free agency.
For example:
The Spurs own Joel Embiid, who is due to be bid on in UFA at the end of the summer. The Spurs may sign Embiid at the beginning of the offseason and bypass free agency, signing him to a five year max contract, BUT the contract must be the full maximum (see pricing above) and it must be five years
Bird Rights:
Any player that you own once the offseason starts will have "bird rights". It is not the same rule as in the NBA but these will allow you to beat any max bid offered to one of your bird rights players. IT IS ONLY APPLICABLE FOR A MAX BID.
* If you decline a player's team option, you will still retain bird rights (unless they are on their rookie contract)
Ex: You own Stephen Curry whose contract expired this offseason. Someone offers him a max contract of $29.7M for 4 years. You can beat this offer by adding another year and signing Curry for the same money ($29.7M for 5 years).
Restricted Free Agency:
- Players who received a qualifying offer are eligible to be a RFA. If not offered, they will become a UFA.
- As stated above, teams with available cap and roster space can bid on any RFA.
RFA Bidding System (Public Bidding)
- RFA will start 4 days (96 hours) before UFA.
- Players will be bid on public proboards threads, just like UFA.
- Once a bid stands for 24 hours, the RFA owner will have an opportunity to match or decline the winning bid.
- The RFA owner will have 48 hours to either match the bid or decline the bid and award the player to the highest bidding team.
- If a player receives no bids within a week (7 full days from RFA start), they can be signed to their team for the 1 year qualifying offer or may have their rights rescinded and become a UFA (without bird rights)
Minimum offers for RFAs
- Every RFA has a Qualifying Offer (QO) value.
- For example, say a RFA has a QO of $3M. Your bid must be at least $3M and if not, the bid will be deemed invalid.
- The Salary Cap will always mirror the NBA Salary Cap, it will be updated annually.
